Cats are wonderful companions, but they need love, attention, and care every day. Make sure your lifestyle allows time and space for a furry friend. Think about your home and preferences—do you want a playful kitten, a cuddly lap cat, or an independent spirit?
Consider taking home two! Cats require exercise, mental stimulation, and social interaction. Two cats can provide this for each other. Plus they'll provide more benefits to you. Cats' purring has been shown to soothe humans as well as themselves—and they have an uncanny ability to just make you smile.
Step 1 is the most important. Once you feel good about it, you need to take a second to prepare for the unexpected. Sometimes, unexpected allergies may show up, forcing people to make the heartbreaking choice to give their pet up.
Visit a friend who has cat or a shelter. You'll pretty much immediately know if you are allergic to cats and the severity of your allergies. Stock up on litter, scratching posts, toys, a carrier, and healthy cat food—everything your new friend will need to settle in comfortably. Bonding takes time. With kindness and a little patience, your cat will grow to trust you—and that's when the magic happens.
